instaSaver ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not collect, store, or transmit your personal information to external servers.
- No Account Required: You do not need to create an account with us to use the App.
- No Personal Data Collection: We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifiers.
- No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use analytics services, ad trackers, or third-party tracking SDKs to monitor your activity within the App.
2. Information Processed Locally
The App performs all essential operations locally on your device.
Instagram Login and Session Cookies
If you choose to log in to Instagram using the App's built-in WebView to access authorized private content:
- Your login credentials are entered directly into Instagram's official login page.
- Your Instagram username and password are never collected, logged, intercepted, or transmitted by the App.
- After successful authentication, Instagram issues session cookies (such as
sessionid and csrftoken).
- These cookies are stored locally on your device in hardware-backed encrypted storage (AES-256-GCM via Android KeyStore) solely for authenticating your download requests to Instagram.
- Session tokens are temporary. If your session expires or is invalidated by Instagram, the stored session is automatically purged from the device.
Downloaded Media
- Photos and videos downloaded through the App are saved directly to your device's public Downloads folder.
- The App does not upload, sync, or back up your downloaded media to any external server.
- Downloaded files remain under your exclusive control on your device.
Instagram URLs
- Instagram links that you paste into the App are used only to retrieve media information and download content directly from Instagram's content delivery networks.
- These URLs are not logged, tracked, or shared with third parties.
3. Permissions
The App requests only the permissions strictly necessary for its functionality:
Internet Permission (android.permission.INTERNET)
Used solely to:
- Connect directly to Instagram servers.
- Retrieve media stream URLs.
- Download photos and videos.
Storage Permissions (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE)
Used on applicable Android versions to:
- Save downloaded media to your device storage.
- Display downloaded files within the App's local downloads list.
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses open-source libraries (such as Jsoup, OkHttp, Coil, and AndroidX Media3/ExoPlayer) solely to provide local playback and download functionality. These libraries do not collect or exfiltrate your personal data.
When downloading content, your device communicates directly with Instagram/Meta servers and content delivery networks (CDNs). Your use of Instagram is governed by Instagram's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
5. Data Security & Deletion (Your Rights)
Hardware Encryption & Backup Protection
- All locally stored session cookies are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using master keys managed by the Android KeyStore.
- Session data is explicitly excluded from Android cloud backups (Google Drive) and device-to-device transfers (
adb backup) to prevent unauthorized credential extraction.
In-App Data Deletion / Logout
Users have full control over their session data at all times:
- In-App Logout: Tapping Logout directly inside the App permanently and immediately deletes all stored encrypted session cookies, clears the in-app browser cache, flushes HTML5 DOM storage, and removes all session history.
- Device Data Clearing: You can also clear all App data and local caches at any time via Android Settings → Apps → instaSaver → Storage & Cache → Clear Storage.
6. Compliance and Fair Use
instaSaver is intended for personal use only. Users are responsible for ensuring they have the legal right or permission to download and store content. We encourage all users to:
- Respect copyright laws and intellectual property rights.
- Respect the privacy of content creators.
- Comply with Instagram's Terms of Service.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and the Last Updated date will be revised accordingly.
